Sharon Y. Murphy, Ph.D., MA, LPC, is an advocate, researcher, and parent recipient of disability related services for almost 30 years. She sees herself as a "socio-counselor" who infuses a keen sense of social awareness with rehabilitation counseling to encourage sensitive, responsible counseling to move clients toward a life of social equality and community integration. She earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from Wayne State University. She is a full-time Assistant Vocational Rehabilitation Officer and part-time Adjunct Counseling Faculty specializing in teaching, counseling community participants and Veterans, working with professors interested in food security and healthy/safety food option for low-income families, working with researchers interested in cancer prevention and healthcare, and working researchers for parents of children with special needs to improve their quality of life outcomes.
